FAQ & Rules

  • How does the contest work?

Quit smoking for the first 7 days of February 2015, and you’re entered to win $2,500 cash. Simple as that.

Winners will be drawn at random once the contest is over and will be contacted directly.

    What’s the catch?

The catch is that you quit smoking. We’re not interested in selling you anything, and we’re not even interested in how you quit -- whether you go cold turkey, or if you use any of the resources on our website (for free).

We just want you to quit, and the research tells us that the more times you try the more likely you are to succeed. We know most smokers (about 70%) want to quit, but we also know that finding the motivation to actually go for it isn’t easy. That’s what this contest is about: providing the spark to turn a plan into action.

    Who can enter?

The contest is open to everyone who:

    • Is a current tobacco-user (cigarettes, cigars, chew, or snus), or someone who has quit tobacco within the last 30 days of the contest start date (February 1st).
    • Is a resident of BC
    • Is 19 years or older
    • Is not an employee, nor immediately related to nor living with, an employee of the BC Lung Association, Context Research Ltd., The Tobacco Control Divisions of  Northern Health Authority, Small Box Software, Burnkit Creative, the Minister, and Executive of the Ministry of Health, or staff of that Ministry employed in Tobacco Control and their siblings.
    • Note: while the contest is targeted at men, all genders are eligible to enter.

Do I have to go cold turkey?

No, you can quit however you want!

QuitNowMen has lots of tools and tactics -- including professional Quit Coaches available via instant chat and a phone line.

You are also welcome to use Nicotine Replacement Therapy (i.e. the patch or gum) or prescription medicine like Champix or Zyban.

    Really, whatever works for you.

How do you choose the winner?

The BC Lung Association will draw two winners at random once the contest is closed and will make contact via email as soon as possible. If you are selected and have stayed tobacco-free and meet the other eligibility criteria (above), you win.

If a selected winner cannot be reached within 24 hours or doesn’t qualify, we will draw more winners until the prizes are given away.

If you are chosen as the winner you may be required to provide proof of ID and registry, and may be asked to take a biometric test to determine whether you remained tobacco-free.

All decisions of the BC Lung Association are final.

    Who is running this contest?

The contest is run by the BC Lung Association QuitNow team in partnership with Northern Health.

    Who created QuitNow Men?

QuitNow Men is a partnership between The BC Lung Association and a collaborative research team from UBC.

Who is funding the QuitNow Men Cold Turkey Contest?

The BC Lung Association with grant funding from the Ministry of Health.

Note: contest prizes are funded through corporate sponsorship.
